Middle Ninilchik River

The stream, about 20 feet wide, winds sinuously through the valley, doubling back on itself as it meanders.  The valley floor is hummocky and covered with tall grass and willows.  In the winter, river otters make slides on the snowbanks next to the iced-over stream.  Moose eat the willow.  In the summer, bears leave tracks in the mud, and volunteers are startled by the loud splashes of spawning king salmon.
