On Saturday August 8th\, come join us for a unique field trip opportunity in Turnagain Pass to learn about local salmon habitat research and mapping. We’ll be going for a short hike to a newly-mapped roadside salmon stream to get hands-on experience with the tools and techniques that Backyard Salmonscapes volunteers like YOU can use to help support local management and conservation!

This family friendly float\, sponsored by Cook Inletkeeper and guided by Kenai River Drifter’s Lodge\, is an opportunity to unplug\, slow down\, and enjoy the outdoors while discovering what makes the watershed so special. \nAs we float through the river’s turquoise waters participants of all ages can learn about salmon\, wildlife\, and the healthy habitats that support them. we’ll share stories about the river and explore how clean water and thriving salmon streams benefit our communities. After our time on the water\, we’ll gather at a campground in Cooper Landing to relax\, share stories from the day\, and enjoy a meal together. \nWhether this may be your first introduction to the river for the first time or creating new memories in a place you already love\, this float is designed to inspire curiosity\, appreciation\, and a lasting connection to the natural world right here in our backyard. \nMeeting & Timing: \nParticipants should arrive at Kenai River Drifter’s Lodge – located at 18404 Sterling Hwy\, Cooper Landing\, AK 99572 – by 9:30 a.m. on the day of the float to allow time for check-in and preparation before launching at 10:00 a.m. Please plan your travel time accordingly \nBring your sense of adventure and join us for a memorable day on the water.
