Kyra grew up in the Northwoods of the “Land of 10,000 Lakes.” She lived near Gichi-Gami, one of the largest lakes, known for containing 10% of the world’s freshest water – also known as Lake Superior. Here, she developed her passion for the outdoors and started understanding the threat of sulfide-ore copper mining. Kyra earned a B.A. in Public Health Education & Promotion and fosters a deep love for art and food. She blends and balances work and life by getting out in the backcountry, growing and foraging food, supporting local food systems, curating stories, and creating visual media to promote local food, food security, and sustainable lifestyles for future generations. Kyra and her partner moved to Tuggeght or IIaraa’alek (Dena’ina and Alutiiq name for Homer) in 2016.
