After evaluating proposals submitted by five Alaskan solar installation businesses, we’ve chose Midnight Sun Solar as the installer for our Solarize the Kenai upper peninsula summer 2020 campaign.
Until August 1st, Midnight Sun will be offering solar installation contracts with a Solarize discount to home and business owners in Sterling, Kenai, Soldotna, Nikiski, Kasilof, Clam Gulch.
Midnight Sun’s proposal offers a “tiered pricing” system with discounts that vary based on how many kilowatts of solar capacity individual building owners order, as well as on the total capacity that all participating building owners have ordered. Depending on these variables, Midnight Sun could install solar at prices from $3/watt to $2.70/watt.
For reference, Alaska’s average cost of solar is $3.13/watt, according to SolarReviews.com, and the average residential system on the Kenai Peninsula is 4.9 kilowatts, according to Homer Electric Association’s net metering data.
Here is a full table of the price tiers we’ll be offering (PDF):
Mike and Bette Gilliland are two Sterling residents who’ve taken advantage of a Solarize contract with Midnight Sun. They’ve sent this testimonial:
We are going solar! This has been a lifelong dream for our family and to be able to realize this dream is beyond words. Solarize the Kenai has been absolutely awesome to making this opportunity for us. We wouldn’t be here without them.
We wanted to get the ball rolling right away so we made a request to Midnight Sun Solar, the authorized installer, and the very next day we had an email to do just that. Forrest Cohn has been the young man working with us from Midnight Sun Solar and the process could not have been smoother. After a visit from Forrest to check out the house and determine that solar would work here, we discussed what we wanted from the system and within a couple of hours we had a proposal for the job. Once we let them know to move ahead, we worked on getting a contract signed and deposit made. We are scheduled to have installation on Monday, the 27th of April. So excited.
Be bold, be brave. No obligation to get an estimate to make a change that is good for a whole lot of reasons.
