Backyard Salmonscapes: A new season of salmon conservation

by | Oct 19, 2026 | Community Action Studio, Clean Water, Community, Salmon

You don’t have to be a salmon expert to make a difference. Whether you’re interested in hands-on fieldwork, community outreach, habitat mapping, or simply learning more about our watershed, there’s a place for you in this work.

Salmon are the heart and life of the Kenai Peninsula. They sustain our fisheries, support local livelihoods, and are deeply woven into our communities and culture. But warming waters, changing streamflows, and other environmental pressures threaten our salmon and the habitats they depend on.

Protecting salmon for future generations means looking beyond major rivers and to the humble small streams, wetlands, and neighborhood waterways that are just as important to their survival.

We’re kicking off a brand new season of Backyard Salmonscapes and inviting YOU to help shape what comes next! Whether you’ve been involved from the beginning or are just learning about the work, everyone is welcome to join us and get in on the fun.

At our next meeting, we’ll develop a shared vision, new initiatives, and an action plan for the year ahead. Together, we’ll explore opportunities to strengthen our partnerships, expand volunteer involvement, and advance Backyard Salmonscape’s community-led efforts to protect salmon habitat.

By bringing community members together through education, hands-on fieldwork, and local stewardship, we’re finding practical ways to protect salmon habitat and strengthen the resilience of our watershed as a whole.

Date: Tuesday, October 27

Time: 5:30 p.m. food and fellowship | 6:00 p.m. meeting begins
Location: Community Action Studio, 35911 Kenai Spur Hwy, Unit #13, Soldotna

Over the past couple of years, Backyard Salmonscapes volunteers and partners have worked together to identify and document salmon habitat, install “Baby Salmon Live Here” educational signs across the Peninsula, raise awareness & provide education about the importance of healthy habitat and the actions our community can take to help salmon thrive in the face of a changing climate

You don’t have to be a salmon expert to make a difference. Whether you’re interested in hands-on fieldwork, community outreach, habitat mapping, or simply learning more about our watershed, there’s a place for you in this work.

Join us to acknowledge what we’ve accomplished, share your new ideas for future work, and help chart the next chapter of Backyard Salmonscapes!

Healthy salmon need healthy habitats & healthy habitats need a community willing to care for them.

We look forward to building another impactful year together!
