We are at a tipping point. 2020 is a threshold for meeting global targets to tackle the climate crisis.

We are fast running out of time to act and any meaningful action from the State of Alaska has been alarmingly slow at best. The Global Climate Action Summit, being held in California on 12-14 September 2018, has inspired a parallel convergence of peoples movements to amplify the voices from communities most directly impacted by our changing climate and corporate greed.

This Saturday, September 8th, is a Global Day of Action to kick of the week in San Francisco – to demonstrate that the whole world is watching, and we demand climate action now. “Rise for Climate, Jobs & Justice” is the theme for marches and rallies taking place across the globe. Events are planned for Alaska in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Homer and Juneau.

With climate impacts escalating — we don’t have the luxury to wait to see what bureaucratic negotiations have to offer. We need our local leaders to step up and do everything they can right now to stop the influence of the fossil fuel industry, move towards 100% renewable energy for all and transition our workforces into these growing renewable industries.
