An underwater data center is being proposed in the waters of Tikahtnu | Cook Inlet in the Forelands region near Nikiski. The proposal comes from a newly registered company called DeepGreen, based in Delaware. Until November 2, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) will be taking comments from the public about the data center proposal. Read more about our concerns and get talking points for your own comment in our toolkit.
DeepGreen’s project plans have major engineering holes that remain unaddressed, but it is clear the data center will directly conflict with the migration bottleneck for Cook Inlet salmon and belugas. Noise, heat, and copper pollution from this project would add more pressure to this already overburdened habitat.
Although DeepGreen proposes powering the project with 300 tidal generators, daily slack tides would require the project to also draw power from the grid, competing with our limited energy supplies.
Submit your comment to FERC by November 2. Remember, our toolkit is here to help you craft your unique comment or testimony.
