I am incredibly honored by Bob, Sue, and of your trust as I step into the role Bob has, seemingly effortlessly, managed for so many years. As I inherit the “Inletkeeper” title from Bob, I’d like to share my vision for the future of the Cook Inlet watershed in the decades ahead:
- Alaska’s economy has diversified, moving from fossil fuels dependent to clean energy and resilient local economies.
- Alaska and the U.S. have prioritized indigenous voices, teachings, and co-management.
- Community support has only grown to protect this place we all love and rely on.
- Lower Cook Inlet is permanently protected from oil and gas drilling.
- Drilling platforms in Upper Cook Inlet are no longer dumping toxic waste into Cook Inlet.
- The Cook Inlet beluga population is not only no longer declining but is stable and can support a traditional harvest.
- Anchorage’s sewage system is upgraded and no longer dumping vast amounts of solid waste directly into Cook Inlet.
- Strong legal protections are in place for our salmon.
These are lofty goals. Cook Inletkeeper can’t achieve them alone. Only with you all, as Inletkeepers and united for the Cook Inlet watershed, can we achieve this future.
While I am “Inletkeeper”, I promise that I will do my very best for Cook Inlet and the life within it through fearless and ambitious advocacy.
I am incredibly inspired by the work and all the people who are invested in protecting this amazing place where we live, work, and play. I look forward to spending years working alongside all of you for the Inlet.
