If you’ve already applied for your 2024 Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD), you might have noticed that Cook Inletkeeper is missing from the list of Pick.Click.Give. (PCG) organizations this year. We’re doing things a bit differently for 2024 to ensure your donations have the greatest possible impact.

Rather than participating in PCG, which charges a 7% coordination fee, we’re asking you to donate directly from your PFD this year. In the past, that fee has redirected over $14,000 away from our efforts to protect Cook Inlet | Tikahtnu. By donating directly, every cent of your contribution will support the vital work you care about.

We deeply appreciate all those who have given through PCG in previous years. It’s been an excellent way to connect with new supporters and make giving easy. However, this change means that your donations will now go even further in supporting the programs and initiatives you value.

To make it easy to remember, we’ll send out a reminder when the PFD direct deposit is set to arrive- though there is no reason to delay, you can always donate today by clicking the button below and know you’ve done your part to support the further protection of Cook Inlet.

With your continued support, we can keep up our vital work—whether it’s opposing the Pebble and Donlin Mine projects, protecting Critical Habitat Areas, gathering crucial data on salmon habitats, or fostering sustainable local food systems. We stand by the belief that policies protecting our home should be driven by science, data, and humanity.

We understand not wanting to add fuel to an unpopular opinion from one board member, but members have a right to know what is discussed at board meetings and the intentions of the board members, popular or unpopular. Instead of telling members their comments are misinformed, HEA should better inform members by publishing recordings of each board meeting and capturing more detailed minutes.

Beluga Protection in Tuxedni Bay

Tuxedni Bay is an essential piece of habitat to ensure the continued survival of this iconic species. The Cook Inlet Beluga habitat is beleaguered with threats from underwater noise from oil and gas development, reductions in critical prey availability, and pollution. NMFS has a duty to ensure the highest levels of accountability for proposed industrial development and to implement swift measures to ensure protection and recovery of this endangered species.

The federal government should stop wasting taxpayer money on failed lease sales in the middle of a climate crisis. Alaskans know our climate crisis is no joke and are ready to move beyond the fossil fuel era, as well as those who prioritize economic profits over liveable communities. We won’t give up trying to protect Cook Inlet from carbon pollution, oil spill risks, and shortsighted thinking.
