This year, I connected with Inletkeeperafter my mom and I went into the Community Action Studio in Soldotna. I love animals and got hooked feeding the baby goats and chickens through the Community Compost project. I’m passionate about climate change and decided I could help get more young people involved with Inletkeeper’s mission by building a Minecraft server about climate advocacy and salmon stewardship.

The Minecraft server was released at the Inletkeeper booth at the Kenai River Fest in June. It was a huge hit and is still available to play at www.inletkeeper.org/minecraft. With 140 million players worldwide, Inletkeeper’s Minecraft server has big potential! I also helped design a pilot “Local Solutions” camp for teens held at the Studio this summer. It was a hit as teens got to learn about climate advocacy through hands-on activities from making local food-based recipes, creating climate solution art, to touring a farm and seeing local solutions in action.

The group of teenagers who were a part of the camp with me this summer are now coming back together in hopes of RE-treeing the Kenai. We are looking for artists, farmers, land stewards, techies, and anyone who wants to have fun! I’m excited to build a virtual escape room to help the project connect with new and younger audiences.

If you’re a teen, reach out to Inletkeeper to see how you can get involved to help protect the watershed!

Inletkeeper Kicks off New Solution Focused on Salmon Habitat

After five years of implementing local solutions, Inletkeeper’s newest community-led project will focus on improving salmon habitat on the Central Peninsula. Inletkeeper is inviting the public to come together on February 10th with local experts to brainstorm salmon habitat solutions and then choose the best one for volunteers to implement alongside Inletkeeper in the Central Peninsula.
