You are Inletkeeper – and NOW is a critical time to stand up for Cook Inlet.

Last Friday, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) released the draft Environmental Impact Statement for the proposed oil and gas lease sale in Lower Cook Inlet. We now have 45 days to explain to our government why this lease sale should be canceled. The Biden Administration has been clear: they want to hear from the people: the fishermen, the business owners, Alaska Natives, and all Alaskans who rely on and love Cook Inlet. Our voices can make a difference here. Together we can stop this lease sale from happening!

We need you.

We need you to speak up and sign this petition (tinyurl.com/leasesale258).

We need you to share the petition. COVID makes organizing difficult. But within your bubble you can share with your friends and loved ones, you can text or email friends the petition and ask them to sign on. And this is a federal lease sale, so you can text your Alaska friends but also text your friends and family who live outside. If you are active on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook you can share our petition there!

We need you to show up for the public hearings. BOEM is hosting three public hearings in November — all will be virtual (all times in AK standard time).

November 16th, 6:30 – 8:30 PM

November 17th, 2:00 – 4:00 PM

November 18th, 6:30 – 8:30 PM

Please take a few minutes to call in to tell BOEM your concerns about oil and gas development in Lower Cook Inlet. Inletkeeper will offer talking points if you want some help but the most important thing is to speak from your heart and ask for Lease Sale 258 to be canceled. You can register for public hearings here (https://www.boem.gov/ak258)

We know we have asked you to stand up for Cook Inlet before and we will ask again in the future. We can’t accomplish anything for Cook Inlet without our incredible team of Inletkeepers.

We will be hosting a series of live facebook events over the next few weeks starting November 4 at 5:30 PM to explain the process and to answer any questions you may have about Lease Sale 258. Please join us! Call us directly at 235-4086 if you have questions. We want to support your efforts to protect Cook Inlet.

NOW is the time to act! Make your voice heard

Together we can stop this lease sale, reduce future carbon emissions, protect our fisheries, and care for our Inlet and each other.

Thank you for reading. We are able to do this work because of member support from concerned citizens like you. Please donate today to protect Cook Inlet for our future generations.
